發展性髖關節發育不良為嬰幼兒最常見髖部疾病，由於髖臼處的發育異常使股骨頭無法穩定嵌入髖臼，容易滑出導致髖關節不穩定或脫位，進而造成長大後長短腳、活動度不對稱、嚴重者甚至跛行。而隨著年齡進展，治療與矯正會越困難，因此早期發現及早期治療有其重要性。目前普遍在新生兒出生及健兒門診追蹤時以理學檢查做篩檢，近年來超音波技術的進步可幫助早期篩檢及診斷，然而現階段髖關節超音波篩檢並無健保給付，臨床上也常遇到家屬對於是否需要接受自費髖關節超音波篩檢而感到困惑。
因此，考量到早期診斷與治療的重要性並且重視家屬的決策需求，對於新生兒是否需要接受自費髖關節超音波篩檢，醫療人員必須援引目前最新的實證醫學文獻及指引(包括系統性文獻回顧systemic review)，說明自費髖關節超音波篩檢對於發展性髖關節發育不良診斷的優缺點。期望建立家屬對此疾病的認識，並在團隊討論過程中進行相關資料收集與工具研發，結合多方專業團隊合作建立此決策輔助工具。透過醫病溝通過程中的交流及分享，參照目前最新實證協助家屬做出最適合小朋友的選擇。
